Wishbone Day 2015

Wishbone Day is the largest community awareness effort EVER for osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). It has grown in size every year since it began in 2010. Thanks to all who shared their Wishbone Day spirit this year by tagging Wishbone Day in photos and stories, we bring to you this snapshot of Wishbone Day 2015.

Why is Wishbone Day important? Because awareness makes a difference!!

Joe Korkowski reports on the special day for Sophia Rose Nohre and the students at her school.

This year our kindergarten class wanted to raise awareness at our school for Wishbone Day and Osteogenesis Imperfecta with our friend Sophia. The project started small, but quickly grew as we worked with her family and gained assistance from outside resources. With the help of our good friends at Thrivent Financial we were able to purchase yellow t-shirts for all the students in our class with our themed slogan, “Can you say Osteogenesis Imperfecta?” on the front, and the phonetic pronunciation [os-tee-oh-jen-uh-sis  im-per-fek-tuh] with a definition on the back.

A visit to Omaha

I'm not sure how this post got missed.  I think it must have got caught up in my luggage while I was travelling from country to county. My apologies for the very late UPDATE!

Before I flew to Germany and Spain, I spent four lovely weeks in the USA.  I had planned on going to Camp Attitude where so many of my good friends and OI family visit each year but unfortunately my flight from Australia was delayed and I was one day too late to travel with my buddies to camp.  I was thrilled that my friends made up for me not being there in person by adding me in spirit to their activities.

Here is Aubrey with Wishbone Day face-paint and Avery, Alexi, Lexi, Robbie and Halle with a picture of me made in the snow. What fun!

Next, I travelled to Omaha with Avery and Mary to visit with Dr Esposito at the OI Clinic. I was so excited to finally meet all the staff, kids and families that visited. Jennifer had posted me a note way back in May inviting me to Omaha, so I was very excited to finally be here! I met many great friends and had such a fun time.

Avery even gave me a ride on his wagon!  Woooo!!

Mary reminded us that we should do a Wishbone Day clip to add to the next Wishbone Day promo video. Jonathon and Dr Esposito practiced their lines:  Why is Wishbone Day Important?  Because awareness makes a difference!

It was so funny when Dr Esposito forgot his line! Oh NO!!  He better practice lots before Wishbone Day 2012!

Next time you visit Dr Esposito at Omaha be sure to ask him: Why is Wishbone Day important?  and if he forgets, remind him - Because awareness makes a difference!

Remember to send in your Why is Wishbone Day important? 10 second video clip to add to the promo video.  If you haven't already sent your video - do it soon!  Need a reminder?  Click here

I'll be back in the USA soon so if you can put me up for a few nights, let me know.  Leave me a comment or send me an email to wishy@wishboneday.com

Did you know ... that I have my very own personal Facebook page?  I use it to share my big adventure - how exciting!  I'd love for you to say hi to me there!.  Kids, you may have to help your Mum or Dad with Facebook because they probably wont have their own :-)

Don't be shy, say hi!!

OIF Unveils Plans for Awareness Week

To coincide with Wishbone Day - 6 May 2011 the OI Foundation USA have announced plans for Awareness Week, to be held 9-15 May 2011.

Awareness Week is a week-long national awareness campaign made up of a series of dynamic and informative promotional programs designed to increase public awareness about OI. The Foundation anticipates that this national effort will not only raise awareness about osteogenesis imperfecta and also reveal that OI is not as unknown as many might think.

Awareness Week is designed to be a collaborative effort of both volunteer events and Foundation sponsored events and programs. The Foundation will organise an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill and sponsor a charity motorcycle ride. OIF Support Groups are being asked to lead outreach programs in their communities. Any member of the OI Community can participate in Awareness Week by planning their own event such as a Blue Jeans for Better Bones, Walk-N-Wheel or Bone China Tea. All volunteer events will be listed as part of the Awareness Week schedule of events.

The Foundation is partnering with local and national sponsors, such as Whole Foods, to help support the success of Awareness Week. With the help of the OI Community, Awareness Week will touch those near and far by educating a multitude of constituents ranging from the general public to elected officials.

For more information about Awareness Week or to plan your own event to be part of Awareness Week, visit www.oif.org/awarenessweek or contact Jennifer Redding at jredding@oif.org.
