What is Wishbone Day?
Wishbone Day is the international day of awareness for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), held every year on 6th May. It's a day to celebrate people with OI and the many different lives we live.
By sharing expereinces, increasing visibility and challenging assumptions about life with OI, Wishbone Day helps build understanding of what's possible, and what still needs to change so people with OI can enjoy their rights, take part in their communities and live full and meaningful lives.
Wishbone Day is always May 6th. It's the date that brings the OI community together around the world, but celebrations don't have to happen on one day. Before or after May 6, big or small, participation is welcome whenever it works for you and your community. Awareness makes a difference every day.
Why yellow -- and not blue -- on wishbone Day?
When Wishbone Day was created, the colour yellow was chosen by the younger members of our OI community. After much discussion, they decided yellow best represented the colour of a wish and, importantly, it was by far the happiest colour in the pack! They also thought wearing yellow would make it easier to find each other.
And they were right. 💛
Wishbone Day yellow shines with optimism and carries the promise of a positive future. It has become a symbol of joy, connection and pride for people with OI around the world.
But the choice of yellow was also deliberate for another reason.
Wishbone Day was created as a grassroots awareness movement, not a charity or fundraising campaign. While blue is widely used by OI organisations and is often associated with organisational awareness and fundraising activities, Wishbone Day chose a different path. Wishbone Day yellow helped create space centred on people with OI -- our experiences, our voices and our communities.
The difference still matters...
There is room for many different ways of supporting the OI community. If you are supporting an organisation or fundraising campaign, you may see blue. But if you are celebrating Wishbone Day, you'll find us in yellow.
Wishbone Day is proudly YELLOW 💛

Who can take part?
Everyone.
Wishbone Day is for people with OI, families, friends, schools, health professionals, community groups, disability services, hospitals, researchers, advocates and anyone who wants to learn, celebrate and help build understanding.
You don't need to belong to an organisation, register or ask for permission. Just go yellow, get involved and spread the word. #WishboneDay
How can I take part?
There is no one “right” way to take part in Wishbone Day.
Wear yellow. Start a conversation. Share something. Create something. Bring people together. Challenge an assumption. Or do something practical that makes life more inclusive for people with OI.
What Wishbone Day looks like in your community is up to you. Make it meaningful, make it yours. And share it here #WishboneDay
